Above all - believe yourself!
A lot of psychics charge a lot of money. Some will quote you prices that are more than you are willing to pay. If that is true, then don’t do it. Just because they were on tv or written up in the paper does not mean they are a sure thing. They’re people - they can have off days, might not click with your energy, or can simply be bad at what they do. Don’t believe the spin. Believe yourself. Be as discerning about this, as you would about anything else you are forking over your hard earned money for. Would you buy a pair of shoes that you normally wouldn’t wear, have no place to wear and cost more than all the shoes you already own just because someone else said they were cool? If your answer is yes, please click the X in the top right hand corner of this page.
At the same time, I wouldn’t try to be a pain either. Don’t play “stump the chump.” Put yourself in their place, when someone is giving you a hard time it takes a lot of effort to get over feeling bad and do what you are supposed to be doing! As a customer your job is to be receptive and help them help you. Now, if you get a weird vibe or don’t feel comfortable about something or someone - leave. It’s your intuitive sense giving you a message. Whether they know it or not, psychics are in the customer service business. Some are awesome at their job, easy to talk to and give you good value in exchange for your money. Some… not so much. It’s your job as a grown person to figure out who is who. And do I need to say that you don’t go back to a bad one?
I called a service once that guaranteed their psychics. The guy I randomly got from their secret psychic phone roulette wheel was a jerk. He had high ratings on the website, and great testimonials. But he was so rude to me. I could feel him rolling his eyes at me over the phone. The sighs and the condescending tone were really inappropriate. And his advice - all platitudes I get from any self help book - you have to follow your dreams. Work on yourself first. Blah blah blah. Afterwards, I was so stunned and confused I felt like I had been sucker punched. Then my brain kicked in with normal human reactions; oh I don’t want to get him fired, maybe he had a bad day, what if he had a family or something going on? You know what - when a service isn’t given when you have compensated a person for it they need to know. Having been a manager of people in customer service I know one thing - it is never the only time this has happened. 1 incident hardly ever gets a person fired. It’s usually a symptom of how they handle their jobs. And sometimes it’s a message to the person - this is not the place for them! I know a waitress. She’s amazing. Friendly, efficient, loves the hours, loves the cash in her pocket. She is great at her job and it works for her life. She’s smiley and a pleasure to see. Compare her to the waitress who is surly and complains about being bored all day, while flubbing her orders and hating on the customers. The 2nd waitress does not belong there. She needs to go somewhere else or learn how to be like the first woman. Most people don’t make any money when they suck at what they do anyway.
So here are the Maven’s rules on psychics:
1) Believe yourself.
2) Prepare for your reading.
3) Be nice.
4) Don’t keep going back if they aren’t good.
